Godhra kin turn on Modi, BJP

Press Trust of India
MUMBAI, Oct. 5. — Some relatives of the Godhra train carnage victims today alleged that they were being “pressurised” by the BJP and VHP and demanded that the Nanavati Commission be shifted outside the state since they had “no faith” in the Modi government.
Addressing a press meet, organised by Citizens for Justice and Peace, the relatives alleged that the BJP and VHP had “used” them for political gains. “The BJP had taken our family members to Ayodhya and assured us of bringing them back safely. Why were they sent back without any of the BJP leaders accompanying them,” asked 82-year-old Girish Rawal, whose wife was killed in the carnage and son stabbed during the post-Godhra riots.
Prakash Chodagar and Sharad Mhatre, both lost their wives in the carnage, alleged that they were being “pressurised” by BJP leader Mr Jaykant Dave to “keep our mouth shut” before the Nanavati Commission, which is probing the riots. They even alleged that BJP members themselves were deposing before the panel posing as representatives of the victims’ families.
The relatives demanded that the panel hold its proceedings outside Gujarat and under the Supreme Court’s supervision. “We can’t get justice here,” one of them said. Bharat Panchal, who lost his wife in the carnage, said his family hadn’t been paid the entire compensation amount and demanded a probe into the use of the funds.
CJP secretary Ms Teesta Setalvad said her organisation would seek police protection for the victim’s families.
