‘An idea whose time has come’

Alyque Padamsee

Communalism Combat is an idea whose time was long overdue. Thank God for people like Teesta Setalvad and Javed Anand who had the guts to invest their own money in a venture that brought no profit and paid off only in satisfaction.

Though the readership is small, thanks to news bulletins sent out by the editorial team, most newspapers and magazines in India get to hear of the communal problems facing our country. I wish that Communalism Combat could also stand out, if videotaped, to all the television channels, to do a similar job there.

It is a miracle that Communalism Combat has achieved its 10th birthday. It needs all the support it can get in terms of donations and editorial contributions. I salute the editors and publishers of the first magazine in India to concentrate solely on the biggest problem that is facing us. Communalism is a cancer that can destroy our multi-religious, national fabric.

More ventures like Communalism Combat need to make the public aware of this frightening future.
