The streets
are screaming tonight.
An agony of flame is visible from
my window
Black and yellow
An echo of the cries that surround
me.
Until I draw the curtains
and bolt the door
To shut out a world
that has lost touch with humanity.
In its way
the silence is sometimes
more ominous than the sound.
I am safe now
but for the images
that have been burned into my
brain.
I am safe now
but for the anguish
that has been ringing in my ears.
I am safe now
but I rest uneasily doused
in painful technicolour.
I am safe now
I am safe
but I am remembering… This selection of photographs is
dedicated to all those who have been victims of the violence that has
consumed Gujarat since February this year. We need to face up to the
horror that has been inflicted on our people.
For the people who died in the
attack on the Sabarmati Express at Godhra on February 27, 2002.
