Communalism
Combat
was a specific response to post 1992 India and 1992-1993 Bombay. Two
journalists, Javed Anand and Teesta Setalvad began this magazine that is
now in its twentieth year. Through 1993, 1996, 1999, 2001 and 2007
Combat sustained a campaign for justice for the survivors of the
pogrom of 1992-1993, through public meetings (1993, 1994, 2001, 2007),
Survivor’s Testimonies (2006, 2007), Signature Campaigns and interventions
with the authorities. In 2006-2007 it was activist Teesta Setalvad’s
efforts through RTI that revived a citizens campaign for the prosecution
of guilty policemen and politicians.
